sculptor – visual artist
Zafeiria Athanasopoulou studied sculpture in the School of Visual and Applied Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) and has a Master’s degree in Graphic Arts and Multimedia from Hellenic Open University (HOU). She showcased her work in five solo exhibitions, participated in the 1st Biennale of Thessaloniki with the Paraphernalia-art team, and in several group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. In 2019 she was elected Specialized Teaching Staff in the Visual and Applied Arts of AUTh. Part of her artwork belongs to private collections and public spaces. Lives and works in Thessaloniki.

artist statement
The core of my artistic practice is rooted in the thoughts and feelings evoked by themes related to the human condition and nature, as an existing state of variable equilibrium in space and time. The transition of these reactions is articulated in the art of sculpture and in digital moving image. My works are assemblages of organic and other objects, derived from the urban environment, waste, such as discarded tree branches, wood, furniture, and found objects, combined with wood carvings and plastic forms, as transformations of varying signification. I investigate the fusion between these objects and music, titling them in musical terms, to provoke an emotional inner conversation and a conceptual redefinition between two media based on space (sculpture) and time (music).
